Ask your MySQL or MariaDB database questions in plain English

Ottoch connects directly to your MySQL or MariaDB database — self-hosted, read-only safe by default, bring your own AI key. No data warehouse, no vendor sitting between you and your database.

01

Connect your MySQL or MariaDB database

Under Settings → Connections → Add connection, pick MySQL or MariaDB and fill in host, port (3306 by default for both), database name, and credentials. Ottoch treats the two as separate connection types but the same underlying protocol — pick whichever matches what you're actually running.

✓ Connecting fine under either SSL Mode is normal for MySQL/MariaDB — unlike PostgreSQL and ClickHouse, these drivers don't strictly enforce "Required" against a database with no TLS configured, so "Disabled" is only needed if the connection test actually fails.
✓ For a managed instance reachable over the internet (RDS, Cloud SQL, PlanetScale, etc.), use "Required — verify certificate" so the connection is actually encrypted end to end.
02

Activate the tables you want queryable

Under Manage tables, turn on exactly the tables the AI should be able to see. Ottoch only ever sends the schema (table/column names) of tables you've explicitly activated to your LLM provider — never your whole database schema by default, and never row data unless you turn on the separate "auto-explain" setting.

03

Ask questions — no SQL required

A few examples people actually ask against a MySQL-backed app database:

✓"Which products are low on stock across all warehouses?"
✓"What's our average order value by month this year?"
✓"List customers who haven't ordered in the last 90 days."

If a question needs a table Ottoch can't see yet — most often a join table linking two activated tables — activate that one too and ask again.
